EU Innovation Convention, Brussels

Adri at Innovation convention March 2014On 10-11 March, Zetacast supported Microsoft in the second EU Innovation Convention organised by the European Commission DG for Research and Innovation, in collaboration with DG Connect, as part of the Innovation Union Initiative. The event was hosted by Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, Commissioner for Research and Innovation, and attracted over 2,000 policy and decision makers, academics and members of the press.

Microsoft presented the Mawingu project in Africa, showing how the use of unused TV airwaves helps deliver low-cost, high-speed wireless broadband and create new opportunities for commerce, education, healthcare, and the delivery of government services in rural areas. The Spectrum Observatory was also part of the demos – it provides an intuitive presentation of the usage of the wireless spectrum in some cities around the world, leading to policy discussions on spectrum.

Recordings of the convention sessions are available on the European Commission webcast portal http://webcast.ec.europa.eu. Short video summaries of each day are available to view, Day 1 and Day 2.
